Based on Kim Jee-Woon's 2003 Korean horror film, “Changhwa Hongryon,” “The Uninvited” revolves around Anna (Emily Browning), who returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother. Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father (David Strathairn) has become engaged to her mother’s former nurse, Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). That night, Anna is visited by her mother's ghost, who warns her of Rachel's intentions. Together, Anna and her sister (Arielle Kebbel) try to convince their father that his current fiancée is not who she pretends to be, and what should have been a happy family reunion becomes a lethal battle of wills between stepdaughters and stepmother.

Berdasarkan Film Horror Korea Karya Kim Jee-Woon (2003) "Changhwa Hongryon", Film ini berkisah tentang Anna (Emily Browning), yang kembali ke rumah setelah menjalani pengobatan sekian lama di rumah sakit setelah kematian tragis ibunya. Penyembuhannya kembali bertemu penderitaan ketika ia menemukan bahwa ayahnya (David Strathairn) telah bertunangan dengan perawat ibunya (sebelum kematian), Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). Malam itu, Anna dikunjungi oleh hantu ibunya, yang memperingatkannya akan tujuan Rachel. Television reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman (Steve Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown.
After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside.
